TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
Whether you’re a local looking to explore, or a visitor here on holiday ready to discover the island, here are several ways to explore our island.
CAR RENTALS
It is advisable to reserve a rental vehicle before arriving in Trinidad, particularly during the busy Christmas and Carnival seasons.
The road network is relatively well developed, but roads in some rural areas may be narrow and winding. Given that Trinidad and Tobago is an old British colony, driving is on the left-hand side of the road. Vehicles are generally right-hand drive but there are some that are ‘left-hand’ drive.
Visitors holding valid driving permits issued from other countries are permitted to drive for up to 3 months without a Trinidad and Tobago issued driver’s permit.

BUSES & TAXIS
There are “authorized taxis” from the airport to your destination, the taxi tariff is displayed in the ‘Arrivals’ area. Private taxis are also available and generally found at major hotels. Fares are not metered and should be confirmed before departure. All licensed taxis are designated by “H” on the license plate. Taxis can also be hired from registered Taxi Associations.
The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) is the sole operator of commercial bus transportation. Another option can be the inexpensive and fixed-route maxi taxis/minibuses designated by colour and have set prices for the route that they cover.
