Description
Trinbagonians host family intimate get-togethers and share meals and companionship. Family and friends gather to count down to the new year then ring it in with old-fashioned black-eyed peas, a bottle of bubbly and an array of fireworks. However, there are also several festive parties that span from the old year into the new year.
Brief History
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the oldest celebrations of New Year’s originated with the Babylonians and Assyrians of Mesopotamia in approximately 2000 BCE. Other existing cultures performed their own celebrations of the holiday with elements of the celebrations being practiced in modern times.

Trinbagonians clean their houses in preparation for the new year. Special meals are prepared such as one-pot rice dish. Churches hold services from midnight on New Year's Eve. Setting off fireworks to commemorate the new year.
